Again
and again, G. Pechet Reber, enfant terrible of the Swiss jazz scene, amazes
by his sudden appearances amongst the international wolrd of jazz. Without
having permanent engagements with any groups or bands, his variability and
spontaneity are the main characteristics of his work and personnality. He
is a musician and poet, who's music changes permanently. So you read in the
"jazz podium", some time ago.
And
furthermore: "I'm not commited to one style ore the other. I try to play
my own one, that arrises from the moment. It can sound like free jazz, ore
like something else." Only few insiders know what a big talent hides
behind these succinct words. Reber is not an easy musician, nor a musician
to show off. His music presents itself without any compromises. There is no
place for styling with great public appeal.
Some
statements from an interview: "When I was a boy my father, a dance musician,
took me with him to the balls. I stayed close behind him and watched. Sometimes
I was allowed to play a piece or two. That was how I learned. The best school
was playing with other musicians... I don't have any Idols anymore. If a musician
wants to play, feel and live the jazz, he or she has to do it fully, or leave
it. Of course there are people I admire, who's music I love, but I don't want
to copy them."
